Reject Misinformation
Misinformation is one of the reasons that the Holocaust took place in the first place. The media displayed propaganda against the Jewish people spreading false information and false blame. Make sure that your children are aware of reputable news sources versus opinion sites when doing research.
Understanding Human Behavior
On top of everything else, the Holocaust was a lesson in human behavior. It showed how it was extremely easy to change a large segment of a population’s mind very quickly, encouraging it to do the formerly unthinkable. Holocaust Memorials provide educational materials to help children understand the actions and events that took place. Let your kids know that education and independent thinking can help them get clarity in difficult situations and help them make the right decisions.
Experiencing Real-Life Stories
There are many people who have firsthand or second-hand accounts of the Holocaust. Even Holocaust survivors who have passed away have shared their experiences in television programs, online videos, or via books. By hearing and reading these accounts, children can have a more intimate understanding of what happened. Learning directly from a survivor make it’s easier to children to understand the event that took place and how they effected the individual’s life.
