Shining Star

At school
They gave me a star
I pinned it onto my dress
I was given the star to show that I was the best
student in the class, and all the other kids stared in envy
At the star I proudly wore on account of my excellency.
Now, I wear a star for a different meaning.
And any feelings of excellency are long gone, happiness all together is fleeting.
I still wear a star
But I am not at school, I am very far
from my home, sometimes I close my eyes so I cannot see
The horrors that occur everyday, so vicious and ugly,
And now I know
there are no students left to stare, no one left to be envious of the star on me.
